Verlan Glade Leavitt

Verlan
Glade Leavitt beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather,
passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, peacefully after losing
his valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Glade was born on July 16, 1934 in Logan,
Utah to Verlan W. Leavitt and Ethel Kent. Glade married
his eternal companion, Carole Fawn Bingham on September
16, 1954 in the Logan Temple.
Glade’s life was one of willing,
faithful and dedicated service. He graduated from Utah State
University and then from Washington State University School
of Veterinary Medicine. He had a longtime large and small
animal practice in Oroville, California. He had a unique
ability to make everyone feel comfortable and loved. His
family was his pride and joy. He felt great happiness in
spending time with them and supporting them in their various
activities.
Glade served in many leadership positions
in the Church Of Jesus Latter-Day Saints and took great
joy in serving his fellow man. He served in the community
as a school board member and highly valued education.
Professionally, he served on the California
Veterinary Medical Association Board of Governors and chaired
the CVMA Insurance committee and also was chair of the American
Veterinary Medical Association Insurance Trust. He was awarded
the distinguished Life membership Achievement Award from
the CVMA and also was honored by the Washington State University
Veterinary Medical School with their distinguished Alumni
Award. Glade was truly a dedicated animal doctor. He grew
up on a dairy farm in Cache Valley, Utah and enjoyed going
up to deer camp and his beloved L Cove Ranch for many years.
He was a great outdoors man and hunted and fished throughout
his life. He was also a master gardener and took great pride
in his expansive palm tree collection, orange orchard and
growing giant tomatoes. Glade and Carole had a great life
together. His love for her and the almost 57 years of marriage
is a love story for the ages.
The family would like to thank the Medical
and nursing staff at IMC in Murray for their great work
in caring for Dad.
Glade is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carole, five
Children: Kelly (Jackie) Leavitt, Teresa (Daniel) Sroufe
, Julie (Todd) Woodland, Ryan (Laura) Leavitt, Jason (Carolyn)
Leavitt. 19 Grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and
his brother Gaylord (Carol) Leavitt.
Funeral services will be held Friday,
May 6, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Cove LDS Ward Chapel located
at 12832 North 1200 East, Cove, Utah. Family and friends
may call at the Cove Ward Chapel Friday morning from 10:00
to 11:30 am prior to services. Interment, Lewiston Cemetery,
Lewiston, Utah.
Additionally, Memorial services will be
held Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Table Mountain 1st Ward
Chapel located at 167 Table Mountain Boulevard, Oroville,
California.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be
made to Parkinson’s Research APDA 729 Arapeen Drive,
