Thoma
Clawson Lloyd
-- 1916 ~ 2010 --
Thoma
Lloyd passed away peacefully at her home August 1, 2010
following a brief illness. She was born in Thatcher Arizona
in 1916, growing up in Binghampton and Tuscon.
Following high school graduation, she moved to Salt Lake
City, working as a telephone operator. At an early age she
became well known for her beautiful contralto voice, sharing
that talent with others her whole life. In 1937 she was
accepted into the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, singing under
the direction of Spencer Cornwall.
That same year she married Orval Lloyd in the Mesa Temple.
They had six children, 32 grandchildren, and 67 great grandchildren.
True to her pioneer heritage, her unfailing faith compelled
her to accompany her husband and younger children to the
British Isles on a building mission for the LDS church.
This required leaving behind familiar surroundings, and
loved ones. Following that experience, the family moved
to Salt Lake City in 1968, where she served in many ward
and stake positions.
She was a faithful and active member of the Daughters of
the Utah Pioneers. She and Orval also served another mission
to a neighboring stake. She gained many close and lasting
friendships in the T.O.P.S association where she served
as chapter treasurer for many years.
Thoma was most of all a loving mother, as well as a great
cook and wonderful homemaker. She selflessly served her
family her entire life. Her family cherishes her and will
miss her greatly.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Glenn) Woods,
Anita (David) Jensen, Roger (Cheryl) Lloyd, Judy (Kenny)
Ries, Debra Gull, Barry (Jill) Lloyd.
Funeral services for Thoma will be held Friday, August
6, 2010 at the Hillside LDS Stake Center Chapel, 1400 South
1900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Family and friends may
call at the church on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00
pm and Friday morning from 10:00 – 10:45 am prior
to services. Interment, Thatcher City Cemetery in Thatcher,
Arizona on Saturday, August 7, 2010.
