Harold
Eugene Wilcox was born December 7, 1929 in Wilmar, Los Angeles
County, California. He is the third child, eldest son, of
Ollie Mae Hardwick and Glen "E" Wilcox. He was
undergoing cancer treatments but died peacefully on January
4, 2012 after a brain hemorrhage.
He appreciated the staff at Central Utah Clinic and American
Fork Hospital who cared for him in this final illness.
Harold loved God, his family, and our country. He served
his family devotedly and generously shared his garden’s
bounty. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints and served the Lord in callings throughout
his life, including a Spanish-speaking mission to the Texas
El Paso mission.
He read widely, loved to sing in choirs and listen to music,
and was an enthusiastic sports spectator.
He earned degrees in Spanish and Languages and earned a
second M.A. in Library Science, after which he worked as
a technical librarian in the aerospace industry and as a
cataloger in the genealogy industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenneth
(Margaret Ann); and eldest sister Virginia (Leo) Eves. He
is survived by his wife, Helen Bitner; son Jonathan (Brenda)
and grandson Mitchell; daughter Sylvia; daughter Julia (Michael)
Bottita and granddaughters Savannah (Braden) Merrill and
Sierra; daughter Elizabeth; sister Louise (Lowell) Smith;
and a large extended family.
The viewing is Monday, January 9, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00
p.m., at Warenski Funeral Home (1776 N. 900 E., American
Fork, Utah 84003).
Funeral services are Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 11:00
a.m., at the Highland 6th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints (6050 W. Chapel Drive, Highland, Utah
84003), with a viewing prior from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment immediately after the funeral is at the Salt
Lake City Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "N" Street.
