Ann Quayle Cannon Van Wagoner
1938 ~ 2025
Ann Quayle Cannon Van Wagoner, 87, of Alpine, UT, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025. She was born on January 8, 1938, in Washington, DC to John Q. Cannon and Anna Laura Stohl. Ann attended the esteemed Sidwell Friends Quaker School in Washington, DC as a child, and graduated from the Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA. In school, Ann picked up the bassoon because they “always needed a pretty blonde to play the bassoon”.
She was an avid lover of the arts and taught piano lessons to many families, some of whom still live in her ward. A skilled crafter with an eye for design, Ann brought beauty to every corner she touched. She was known for her kindness, and many people she cared about received a handmade afghan or a needlepoint creation.
In addition to being a mother of five children and a homemaker, Ann worked as a realtor and as a substance abuse counselor. She was a proud member of the Temple View Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Ann was dedicated to her family, showing her love to all her grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was happiest to watch them perform and be successful in life. Despite many health issues, Ann always prevailed with her sense of humor and deep faith intact. Her conviction that God lives and knows and cares for each one of us never wavered. She firmly believed faith in the Lord and Savior will carry us through the darkest of times.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her sister (and best friend) Jane King; her brother Jack Cannon; and her dear grandson, Travis Stanley. She is survived by her five children: Julia Ann (Tom) Thompson, Earl Van Wagoner III “Chip” (Becky), Madelyn Vann (Kevin Kean), Laura Anne (Gary) Adam, Charles B. Van Wagoner (Jessica), her twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and her sweet puppy, Molly.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 10:00 am at the Lone Peak Ward Chapel located at 285 North Matterhorn Drive, Alpine, Utah 84004, with a viewing to precede it at 9:00 am. Interment to follow at Alpine Cemetery.
