Ann Fowler Van Woerkom
June 14, 1943 ~ April 19, 2025
Ann Fowler Van Woerkom passed away on the afternoon of April 19th, 2025, after a five-year long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Van Woerkom, and her children: Scott (Amy) Van Woerkom, Richard (Katherine) Van Woerkom, Daniel (Amber) Van Woerkom, Douglas (Amy) Van Woerkom, and Sarah Van Woerkom.
Ann was born in Redding, California on June 14, 1943, the second of six children born to Walter and Manita Fowler, both deceased. Ann was a born nurturer and was a loving influence in the lives of her siblings: Roger (who passed away at a young age), and the others who survive her: John (Marie), Alice (Ray), Audrey (Jeffrey) and Richard (Tina). Her father’s work took their family from Redding, California to Estes Park and Loveland, Colorado, Schenectady, New York, and finally to Denver, Colorado, where she graduated from South High School in 1961. Ann excelled musically and academically; she sang as a member of the school’s concert choir and was the only girl in her math class by senior year.
Ann attended Brigham Young University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. While attending BYU, she renewed her childhood friendship with Ron Van Woerkom and the two were married on August 16, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. They began married life in Provo, Utah, then followed employment with Mountain Bell and AT&T to Denver, Colorado, Chester, New Jersey, Sandy, Utah, Boise, Idaho, and Antwerp, Belgium, before retiring to Alpine, Utah.
After teaching second grade at Brookside Elementary in Springville, Utah for two years, Ann began her lifelong calling as an exceptionally devoted, full-time mother. Ann and Ron were blessed with four boys and, finally, a girl. Ann created a warm, welcoming home filled with good food and love. The years were busy with soccer, little league, and especially football games. Her favorite thing was to listen to her children laughing together.
Ann served in many callings as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and many friends and neighbors were fortunate to have her minister to them. In retirement, spending time with her 19 grandchildren brought her much happiness.
The viewings and funeral service will be held at the Alpine West Stake Center located at 327 Long Drive, Alpine, UT, 84004. Viewings will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Friday, April 25 from 9:30-10:30 am. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 25 at 11:00 am.
