Donald Woolley Young
1934 ~ 2025
Donald Woolley Young passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at home, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born May 9, 1934, in Huntington Park, California to Ruth Woolley and Nelson Adam Young. He was the youngest of three boys.
In 1956 he married his best friend, Mignon Louise Ryan (Funk). They raised their five children in Ojai, California, which they all considered to be a bit of paradise on earth. The cherished friends they made there have continued to bless their lives.
He served his country in the Army, stationed in Hawaii and South Korea. He attended Brigham Young University and received his dental degree at the University of Southern California. Don practiced dentistry in Ojai for more than twenty years before moving to Utah in 1984. While living in Provo he served as a director for Mountainland Area Agency on Aging over the Meals on Wheels program. In later years they moved to Spanish Fork’s Covered Bridge Canyon and then to Pleasant Grove. His unselfish nature, upbeat attitude, and steadfast faith left a lasting impression on the hearts of all within his sphere of influence.
Don faithfully served in numerous callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including in bishoprics, scouting, teaching assignments, and as a temple worker for sixteen years. He and Mignon were also blessed to serve together on two church missions.
As a great-grandson of Brigham Young, Don was proud of his pioneer heritage and the contributions of his paternal ancestor.
He loved animals and nature, spending much of his free time outdoors hiking, camping, biking, and running—competing in multiple marathons. He had various interests, including history, entomology, geology, and maps. He was a problem solver and handyman. He loved to dance, whistle, and sing, and he filled the house with the music he listened to daily. He was an innovator, a builder, and a dreamer. His wife lovingly called him a genius.
Most of all, he was a man of faith, an obedient son of God, and a lover of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He looked forward to a joyful reunion with his Savior and his loved ones who have gone before.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mignon, his children Michelle (Gary) Tobian, Lori (Scott) Stone, Tim (Susie), Angela (John) Geddes, and Jennifer (Jared) Hancock, his 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and loyal cat, Sassy. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Calvin and Robert) and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Don will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Mount Mahogany 5th Ward Chapel, located at 1541 North 1300 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church.
