Gail Godfrey Averett 1952-2026

Gail Averett, 73, of Alpine, Utah returned to her heavenly home Wednesday, June 10th, 2026. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with dementia. Gail was a light in this world and will be deeply missed.

Gail was born in Billings, Montana on September 22, 1952 to Dudley Keate Godfrey and Virginia Harbert Godfrey. Gail was the third of four children. She grew up alongside Mitch (Bonnie) Godfrey, and Michael (Polly) Godfrey, and her late brother Sidney (Chris) Godfrey. 

After moving to Sandy, Utah, Gail attended Jordan High, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Clifton B. Harris. Together they welcomed two children, Tanna (Rynn) Nixon, and Clifton (Amiee) Christensen. They later divorced. Gail’s journey led her to Robert S. Christensen; their union brought two more blessings, Camille (Mike) Gordon, and Robert (Holly) Christensen.  Following Robert’s tragic passing in a mine accident, Gail navigated grief with the help of loved ones and showed her defining strength in her ability to carry on. In 1994, she considered herself beyond grateful to have met and fallen in love with Terry R. Averett, of whom she was married for 32 years. In marrying Terry, she gained a bonus child, Kelly (Sara) Averett. They led an adventurous life together, enjoying their long drives, nature, side by side adventures, fishing, and spending time with family. When Gail’s most difficult battle came in the form of dementia, Terry became her anchor. For years, he stepped into the role of her full-time care-taker, with a fierce, quiet devotion. His tireless, gentle care was a testament of their love for one another. 

Gail’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by family, simply participating in anything her children or grandchildren were doing.  Gail was often the person others turned to for advice, comfort or encouragement. Gail gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and lived by a gentle creed she often shared, “We don’t know the battles they are fighting.” Gail’s true calling was healing the hearts of others. She was an honorary counselor to everyone she met. She lived entirely in the moment, sharing a quick, beautiful smile that made strangers feel like old friends. Gail helped more people than she ever knew. 

Gail had a testimony of Jesus Christ and was a faithful disciple throughout her life. She continued to pray for her family right up through the end of her life on earth. We are grateful for our knowledge that Gail is at peace and her mind and body been made whole again. We look forward to our sweet reunion with her and know our family will once again be reunited. 

Gail’s legacy of love lives on through her twelve grandchildren; Aubrie Nixon, Caleb Nixon, Easton Nixon, Olivia (Jaxon) Burton), Cameron Davis,  Dylan Christensen, Jacob (Tilar) Christensen, Abbi (Rustin) Hickman, Joshua Gordon, Lilly Gordon, Lucas Gordon, River Robert Christensen as well as her five great-grandchildren; Archer Harding, Hadley Christensen, Carter Christensen, Colt Hickman and Hayes Hickman. 

Funeral services to celebrate Gail’s beautiful life will be held Friday, June 19th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Warenski Funeral Home Chapel located at, 1776 North 900 East American Fork, Utah, 84003. A viewing will take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with services immediately following.
