In Loving Memory of Glenn Reed Matthews
Glenn Reed Matthews, age 73, of American Fork Utah, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 24, 2025. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Glenn was born in Cedar City, Utah on November 5, 1952, to Reed and Betty Matthews. He spent his early years between Peoche NV and American Fork Utah, where he found his love of horses and the outdoors. He attended American Fork High, playing basketball for the high school team. After graduation he attended Dixie college.
By trade, he worked in construction, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic, skill, and determination. He was a man who knew the value of hard work and took pride in what he built. Glenn found his second calling in horse racing. He would spend his free time at the track with his horses Double Repeat and Portuguese Flyer, winning some and losing others. Either way he loved to be at the track watching those thoroughbreds run.
Glenn loved the outdoors, riding horses, spending time in the canyon, and staying at the cabin. This is where he felt most at peace. He cherished his family and friends and loved to be with them. One of his greatest pleasures was riding horses with anyone that wanted to go. He had so much love for the mountains and those long rides.
He is survived by his loving partner, Maryjo Barratt; his daughter, Amiee (Nolan) Wootton; and his son, Randy (Tralaye) Matthews, Christi and Casey, Alicia and Skip, Amy and Micky, Dustin and Amanda, Kelsey and Jaron. He is also survived by his siblings Marilyn Dawn DeHart, Teresa (Bob) Fredrickson, Julee (Jeff) Webster and Kevin (MaryJo) Matthews. He was proceeded in death by his nephew Cale Todd Dehart.
Glenn was a loving grandfather to Cason, Jayde, Jerzy, Kole, Drayson, Jude, Lincoln, Dash, Canyon, Sol, Barratt, Leah, Bronson, Blake and Luke. Each one brought immense pride and happiness into his life.
