On April 11, 1933 Joyce Lilian Bayly was born to Thomas Bayly and Margaret Primrose Williams in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. She was the fourth child in a family that would grow to house seven. Her childhood was not without difficulties, as the horrors of World War II impacted her daily life. Joyce was a wonderful storyteller and a common phrase she used when recalling her childhood was “When the war was on…”

On July 9, 1952 Joyce married William Lee Woodrum Sr. He was a U.S. soldier she had met in the train station during his service assignment for the Korean War. Shortly after their marriage, Joyce immigrated to the United States via Ellis Island. Joyce and William were blessed with three children: William “Billy” Lee Jr., Wanda Elise, and John David. The family resided primarily in Georgia.

Joyce enjoyed a special sensitivity and lifelong devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ. She shared with many her dream, since childhood, of the everlasting hills. A place we are sure she resides now. In the 1960s Joyce, William, and their children became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joyce served in many church capacities through the years.

During her adult years, while raising children, Joyce also worked in wardrobe for movies like Buster and Billie and Scalpel. As can be noted by her own IMDb profile.

In the late seventies, after her divorce, Joyce returned to England where she reconnected with  family and childhood friends. One such friend was John Patrick “Pat” Barker.

In 1980, Pat and Joyce married in Southport, Merseyside, England. Over many decades the two enjoyed numerous travel adventures.

In the 2010s, Joyce began to visit and stay for longer durations in the States. Splitting time between two “homelands”. In so doing she created great friendships and bonds with her Utah community. Many came to know her as Nanny or Nana.

Over 93 years Joyce “pocketed” many favorites. She loved the songs “Never Walk Alone” and “Too Young”. The places she frequented were the temple and Tuesday bingo. She enjoyed outings that included shopping and treats. Her go-to games were Ticket to Ride and Play Nine. Above all she loved visiting with her loved ones. Whether it was quick phone call, a spontaneous sit down, or a planned get together Joyce loved making memories and sharing stories about those memories.

After a string of hard months and deteriorating health, Joyce joined her Savior in heaven on the evening of July 24, 2026.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; former husbands, William Lee Woodrum and John Patrick Barker; son, Billy; grandson, Joseph; granddaughter, Jordan Ann; great-great granddaughter, Phoebe. Joyce’s memory lives on through the many lives she touched. She is cherished by her sister, Margaret Irene Bayly; children, Wanda and John (Kelly); daughter-in-law, Cindy; grandchildren, Katherine, Tonya, Justin (Lauren), Chelsea (Jackson), John II (Maria), James (Kjerstin), and MacKenzie (Nick); great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Nieces, Marcelle, Helen, and Rachel; and nephew, James and many other loved ones throughout the South and across the pond. Joyce’s life was made fuller by loving friends including Paul and Lindy Taylor, Cathy and Barry Lunt, the Laxton’s and Averett’s, and many others in her Utah Community.

The memorial service for Joyce will be held August 8 at 4 pm located at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1320 West 3540 North Pleasant Grove, 84062. All are welcome to attend Joyce will be laid to rest on Thursday, July 30th in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
