Patrick Johns Obituary

In Loving Memory of Patrick Thomas Johns

March 17, 1984 – May 27, 2025

Patrick Thomas Johns, age 41, passed away on May 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of vibrant energy, deep compassion, and unforgettable presence. Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on March 17, 1984, to Kevin and Julia Johns, Patrick spent most of his childhood in the coastal town of Brookings, Oregon, where his boundless energy and adventurous spirit were evident from the very beginning. He was rarely still, hardly slept, and approached life with fierce independence from a young age.

In high school, Patrick poured himself into music and athletics—singing, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He taught himself to play the guitar and loved to perform, naturally capturing attention with his magnetic presence. His charisma, quick wit, and sincere heart left a lasting impact wherever he went.

From 2003 to 2005, Patrick served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hermosillo, Mexico. There, he developed a deep love for the Spanish language and the people he served. His time in Mexico was a defining chapter in his life. In 2005, he experienced a profound loss with the passing of his father, Kevin, to brain cancer. That moment deepened his sense of responsibility and devotion to his mother and younger siblings.

While attending Brigham Young University, Patrick met Shannon, whom he married in 2006. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and went on to build a life that reflected his passions and unique approach to the world. In 2014, Patrick became a father to his beloved son, Sterling—a role that brought him immense joy. He often said that becoming a parent transformed his world from black and white into full, brilliant color. He was the “adventure dad,” always ready for camping trips, gaming nights, dancing in the kitchen, or spontaneous road trips. He passed on his zest for life and curiosity to his son, teaching him to seek wonder and embrace joy.

Patrick had an insatiable love for learning and a wide range of interests—from grappling and outdoor exploration to travel, delicious food, and deep, meaningful conversations. He enjoyed collecting unique treasures and lived life with a deep appreciation for beauty and connection. His style was all his own—distinct, expressive, and unapologetically Patrick. He gave generously and from the heart, often referring to himself as a “ferryman,” devoted to helping others cross the waters of healing. His presence made people feel seen, heard, and truly cared for.

Patrick is survived by his mother, Julia Mason Davis, and stepfather, Patrick Davis; his siblings, Lauren Johns, Mason Johns, Mackenzie Johns, Ally Sorensen, and Mike Davis; and his cherished son, Sterling Johns; and Sterling’s mother, Shannon Johns. He is preceded in death by his father, Kevin Johns.

Patrick’s absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. He will be remembered for his bold energy, his big heart, and his unwavering love for the people and experiences that made life meaningful. His legacy lives on in every song played, every trail walked, every conversation that dares to go deeper, and every act of kindness inspired by the way he lived.
