Dean S Bailey
1953 ~ 2021
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dean S Bailey announces his unexpected passing, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at the age of 67. Dean will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Betty Jo and his children, Ashley, Michelle (Kimball), Matthew (Jerri), and Katie (Merrill). Grandpa Deano will also be greatly missed by his ten grandchildren, Brody, Reese, Gavin, Christine, Nolan, Rachel, Clark, Erin, Rory, and Weslie.
Dean was born on October 8, 1953 in Burley, Idaho to Ellen Myrtle Short and Keith R. Bailey. He was the 5th of 6 children, raised on the family farm in Rupert, Idaho. His early years were spent working on the farm, where he especially hated milking the cows. During his early years, he developed an interest in photography, which led him to ultimately study photography at BYU. Between 1975 and 1977, Dean served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Boston, Massachusetts. Dean and Jo met when they went on a blind date to the circus on September 25, 1979 and were engaged three weeks later. They got married on March 1, 1980 and were sealed one year later in the Manti Temple. Dean and Jo lived in Vineyard/Orem for 10 years before settling deep roots in Alpine, having lived there for the last 30 years.
Dean was a tireless worker. Throughout his life he worked for multiple companies including Mini World, OEC-Diasonics, GE, Zions Bank, and ultimately finishing his career working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings in the Church including as a counselor in a bishopric, High Councilor, and Bishop of a family ward and student ward at BYU. His favorite callings were serving with the young men and serving the students at BYU as a High Councilor and a Bishop.
Dean is the embodiment of the perfect family man, a devoted husband and father. Dean and Jos strengths and weaknesses complimented each other in every way. When one of them needed help, the other was always there to pick up the slack. They entertained each others crazy ideas, even when it didnt pertain to their own interests. Together they created a dynamic tag team capable of tackling all of lifes challenges.
Dean is best described as being French Bread. Having a hard, crusty exterior, but a soft and squishy inside. If you were someone that Dean cared about, there was no one better to have at your side. Dean loved his family, researching random facts about science, and Tesla. He made the most of his life by living his values and remaining true to his faith and family. He never wavered in his convictions or in his commitment to his family. His selflessness and the love he shared has enriched the lives of all those who knew him. We could always depend on him and we still can.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm. *Social distancing and masks are requested*
