George Brent Keeler

George Brent Keeler was born January 22, 1955 to Virginia Bowles Keeler and Joseph Jensen Keeler (Jay) He was welcomed as a boy not only by parents, but by five older sisters. Brent’s first name George, was given to honor “Uncle” George Fitzroy, a fast friend and mentor to Jay.

Brent attended Joaquin elementary for kindergarten, then BY Lab School, Farrer Junior High and Provo High School. Subsequently, he completed two years at BYU.

Brent was passionate about railroads and everything RR related, but his love for the US National parks continued throughout his life. We sisters have always believed that had his circumstances been different, he would have been a career park ranger instead of long-term caregiver. He played the French horn and played in bands through high school, then under Dr. Ralph Laycock in the university band. He also sang with the Mormon Youth Chorus for several years. A large collection of recordings testify to his love of music.

Brent was his father’s companion on dozens of Saturday trips to prowl around mining ghost towns. Then when his father could no longer drive, Brent became the driver and took his dad wherever he needed to go. This occupation expanded to caregiver as his parents aged, then as sole caregiver for his mother.

Brent was preceded in death by sister, Janice Keeler Butler, and survived by sisters Kathleen Keeler Murphy, Mary Anne Keeler Jolley, Catherine Marie Keeler Blanchard and Claudia Keeler Pickering.
