Larry Richins Obituary

Larry Edwin Richins, born December 8, 1936 in Wanship, Utah to Fay Edwin and Clyda Bair Richins, passed away on October 17, 2021 lovingly surrounded by his family.

In his younger years, he played the trumpet and attended Weber College on a music scholarship. Shortly after, Larry served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Canadian Mission. Sixty years ago, Larry married Sammie Diane Motter in the Salt Lake Temple. They had five children, Kitty Sue (Doug) Anderson, Reanna (Briant) Johnson, Nathan (Sharon) Richins, Janna (Cary) Jamison, and Loren (Delsa) Richins. Larry has 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

After graduating from Utah State University with a degree in finance, he worked in the San Francisco Bay area for nine years. It was then that the family moved to Hawaii where he was a Controller for a chain of resort hotels. Next, he spent time in Maryland as an Assistant Controller for the Marriott Hotel Corporation. Alpine, Utah has been home for the last 42 years during which Larry and his son, Nathan, built, owned, and operated the Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites just west of the Salt Lake Airport. They sold it a few years ago.

Larry and Sammie served three missions together: the Africa Zimbabwe Mission, serving in the country of Malawai, the Russia Ekaterinburg Mission, and the Scotland/Ireland Mission.

Larrys family and the gospel of Jesus Christ were his priority throughout his life.
