Malcolm B Obituary

Malcolm Braidley Lloyd, 90, passed away peacefully at his home on December 8, 2020 of complications due to his advanced age.

Malcolm was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, on August 12, 1930 to Horace Braidley Lloyd and Ellen Flynn Lloyd. His mother died in June 1939 and World War II broke out the following September. Mac was evacuated along with many children from Sheffield to the countryside near Nottingham where he stayed until December 1940. Shortly after returning home, the blitz on Sheffield began. He often shared harrowing stories of his experiences during that time. At 14, he joined the Royal Air Force cadet program and learned to fly, but the war ended before he could fly in combat. He helped make post-war air deliveries of relief supplies to Berlin. His favorite plane to fly was a Spitfire.

Malcolm married the love of his life, Shirley Stride, on May 7, 1953, in Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England. They began their life together close by in Blackheath, Worcestershire and then moved to Kingswinford, Staffordshire in 1958. After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1963, Mac and Shirley immigrated to the United States in 1964 with their family, living first in Chicago, Illinois, then in Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Pleasant Grove, Utah, as well as Escondido, and San Jose, California, finally settling in Cedar Hills, Utah. They were sealed as a family for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, October 26, 1965. Malcolm was the proud father of five children.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a high priest and served for many years in bishoprics and as a member of the high council. He loved the ocean and the mountains, piloting airplanes, racing motorcycles, motorcars, sailing, power boating, skiing, fishing, hunting, traveling, reading, history and spending time with his family.

Malcolm loved the USA and became a citizen as soon as he was legally able. After becoming a citizen, he joined the Salt Lake City Police Department as a reserve officer. He worked for years with the Utah Republican Party and ran campaigns for Lehi City Council and the Utah State Legislature in the mid-1970’s. Mac attended the University of Birmingham in England. He spent most of his career as a dental technician and was exceptionally skilled at creating porcelain crowns and bridges. He owned and operated Colonial Dental Service in Lehi for many years.

Malcolm is survived by his daughter Karen B. Johnson (Hugh) of American Fork, Utah, son Andrew B. Lloyd (Frank) of San Jose, California, and daughter Ellen B. Wilson (Gary) of American Fork, Utah. He was the beloved grandfather Grandad to fifteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2017, son Richard in 2000, and son Jonathan in 2018.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, a private family graveside service and interment will be held at the Lehi City Cemetery on December 14, 2020.
