Michael Longman Obituary

Michael Jay Longman passed away peacefully on January 24, 2021, at the age of 75, with his beloved family by his side. Mikes life is defined not only by his gentle kindness and steadfast faith in Christ but by the unconditional love he expressed in both words and actions.

Born in Provo, Utah on June 12, 1945, to Estella and John Longman, Mike and his siblings were raised in a loving home where hard work and integrity were instilled. After high school, he met Annette Spendlove on what would become a serendipitous blind date proclaiming to his friend, I am going to marry that girl!. His desire to serve the Lord, however, would temporarily delay their union as he served a two-year mission in Florida for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 19651967. His mission was a spiritually formative experience he cherished all his life. Mike and Annette were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 17, 1967, and started their family soon after. He graduated from Weber State University and led an accomplished career as a sales representative selling office supplies to university bookstores. Mike considered his greatest accomplishments to be his five sons: Scott; Doug; Tyler; Ryan; and Darren. He took great pride in teaching his children the principles of the gospelincluding how to pray, study the scriptures, and uphold the standards of righteousness. His sense of humor and fun-loving attitude were also foundational to his parenting style. From campouts to vacations around the country, he provided his family with innumerable experiences to grow, have fun, and feel loved. Some of his most memorable moments were spent golfing and fishing with friends and family.

Mikes beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him, and he was always delighted to teach them how to tie a line, bait a hook, cast a rod, and reel in a fish. Mike served faithfully in many church callings. He especially enjoyed his service in the bishopric of a BYU student ward and as a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Mike and Annette enjoyed a profound love and friendship throughout their 54 years of marriage.

Mike is survived by his wife, Annette; sons, Scott (Jan), Doug (Jen), Tyler (Myla), Ryan (Angela), and Darren (Heather); brothers, Earl (Norma), Dale (Joyce); sister, Kriss (Ralph); 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
