Stanley Stoneking Obituary

Stanley David Stoneking

1934 2022

Stanley David Stoneking, age 88, passed away on October 1, 2022 in Lehi, Utah. He was born in Galesburg, Illinois, on April 12, 1934 to Sarah Mae (Pont) and Edward Deloss Stoneking. Stans fondest childhood memories were always with his brothers Fred and Jack and sister Mary. Over the course of his life, he developed a passion for music. While attending BYU, he was part of the prestigious Ys men band. He was even featured in a drum solo in a BYU film. He finished his degree in Art. It was during his time that he met Lois Sorenson. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 7, 1955. During their marriage of 10 years, they had two sons, Stanley David and Michael Joseph.

Stan served two years in the army with his best friend and brother, Jack Stoneking. He then completed his teaching certificate and became an art teacher in American Fork, Utah. Shortly thereafter, he moved to California where he taught at Foothill High school for nearly 34 years. He was an amazing artist and took pride in his ability to teach and maintain order in the classroom.

Stan was a world traveler. He enjoyed visiting Europe with his sweet friend and companion Adele Nibler. He loved writing about his travels and was the best resource for trip recommendations. He saw great value in seeing the world.

Stan made it a priority to be active in his sons lives taking them on many fishing and camping trips to Yosemite, skiing, and long rides to Illinois to visit family. Stan was always a big supporter of his family and took joy in his posterity. He was a beloved grandpa and rarely missed a game or performance by his grandkids. His specialty dish, chili he called a pot of beans, was shared with his family around the dining room table. The event always had to be documented by photo. His family has many memories captured by the camera he always kept on hand. He enjoyed sharing his pictures with those he loved, and these pictures brought him great joy until the end of his life.

Stan is survived by his sons Stan (Debra) Stoneking II and Michael (Connie) Stoneking, 7 grandchildren, 14 (soon to be 15) great grandchildren, and sister Mary Paulson. Proceeded in death by his beloved mother Sarah and father Edward, and siblings Fredrick, Jack, and Kay Marie (Bunnell).

Memorial services for Stan will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 3:00 pm in the Eagle Crest 2nd Ward Chapel, located at 1920 North 500 West, Lehi, Utah 84043. Interment will be at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
